Finding Hope Amid Hardship: Triumph Over Trauma & Addiction with John Boyle
Hope is something that I have been studying in scripture. Specifically the biblical meaning of hope, not the way the world tries to explain it. I dove into Psalm 25:5 which talks about hope and then God... in all of his amazing plans had me talk with John Boyle and part of his message he shares is about hope!! Of course it was because that is how God works!
Biblical hope is not wishful thinking but instead is a confident expectation that God's promises will come to pass. It's knowing that no matter what God will come through and show up in ways that only he can.
John Boyle was born into a multi-generational family of coal miners. He was raised in the small Appalachian town of Kingwood, West Virginia. He is a graduate of The Kiski School in Saltsburg, PA, West Virginia University School of Engineering in Morgantown, WV, and Harvard Business School in Cambridge, MA. John wrote the book, Appalachian Kid: How Hope Changed Everything to help people. His story showcases the importance of kindness and mentorship, overcoming adversity and addiction, finding faith and hope, and helping those in need. It is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and also a testament to the miracles God has performed in his life. For anyone who has ever struggled with addiction, trauma, abuse, or the weight of life’s hardships, this book offers a message of hope and a path to healing.
Key Takeaways:
- No one who follows Jesus is a victim
- Will power doesn’t lead to transformation, Jesus does
- Can your friends tell you’ve been with Jesus?
- You have to want to help yourself, no one can help you including the Lord, if you aren’t willing to ask for help
- Hope is a confident expectation that God’s promises will come to pass
- You don’t loose if you’re knocked down - only if you stay down
