A Heavenly Father Changes Everything: He Calls Me Daughter with Rick Alitzer

We are starting off the season by talking with the Director and creator of the outstanding film, He Calls Me Daughter. Rick was one of my favorite interviews of the entire season. His enthusiasm is contagious and the film God commissioned him to create changed my life. I don't just say that because he's on the podcast, I tell you that because it is 100% the truth. 

Rick Altizer directed the Kendrick Brothers’ documentary Show Me the Father, which played in more than 1,100 theaters nationwide and earned an A+ CinemaScore—an honor achieved by only a handful of films each year. In addition, Altizer has directed three award-winning documentaries for comedian Chonda Pierce: Unashamed (#2 film in America), Enough (#2 film in America), and Laughing in the Dark (#5 film in America). A two-time Dove Award–nominated music producer, Altizer has sold more than one million albums and has produced music for artists including Johnny Cash, Vince Gill, Marty Stuart, and Russ Taff. As a recording artist, he has released seven studio albums and earned three Top 10 singles. 

Altizer is currently directing the feature documentary He Calls Me Daughter. He lives in Nashville, Tennessee, with his wife, Jan. They have two sons, David and Matthew, two daughters-in-law, Laura and Kimmy, and three grandsons: Ryan, Caleb, and JJ. "He Calls Me Daughter" finished in the top 5 releases at the box office during its theatrical run. The film has a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

• God is not bound by our time or dates, He moves beyond what we can comprehend
• A Father Wound response would sound like “I knew I couldn’t trust you God.” but that can be reset and healed
• A functional orphan, someone who goes to church, does all the things yet doesn’t really believe God is their Father. They struggle with actually believing God is for them and with them.
• Learning to trust God is a struggle but He is trustworthy
• Our problem with connecting with God could be that we are projecting on to God the traits of our earthly dad, and those two things need to disconnect, God is the perfect Father
• I don’t feel valued, I don’t feel seen: the result of a father wound
• It’s through Christ that we are designated as daughter to God
